The International Fan Club Society was founded in October 2002 by Amanda du Plessis from South Africa.
Amanda was always interested in celebrities. A very lonely teenager, she turned to the hobby of collecting celebrity photos and joined the Afrikaans fan club of Sonja Heroldt (a popular local singer at the time). She then joined the Cliff Richard fan club when she was 15 years old.
It was virtually unknown for a teenager at the time to prefer participating in fan clubs and writing letters to celebrities, instead of going to discos etc.
Amanda always wanted to start her own fan club for a celebrity! The internet created opportunities to Amanda and while websurfing one day she came upon the website of the NAFC (National Association of Fan Clubs).
When the NAFC disbanded in September, Amanda founded the IFCS to help promote and support fan clubs in South Africa, Africa and the rest of the world.
The IFCS started very small with the intention to only list fan clubs, but due to requests from fans and club presidents we not only offer an online listing directory but also membership and our quarterly newsletter: The Fan Club Times, a Printed Fan Club Directory and so much more.!
Amanda strives to provide a high standard when dealing with fans and fan club presidents.
